1st Entry of 2010

Hello, 2010, how are you?

I'm okay, just being lazy for the day. Gotta give my mind and body some sort of a break, right? ^^

I've decided to change layouts on both journals, and I'll be working on my writing one in a moment here.

samuraisongbird

appleleaf really makes very nice layouts, whether if they're simple or not. :)

2009: My Year In Review

So 2009 is ending, but I never expected for the year to end THAT DAMN FAST. DX There have been good times as well as bad, along with finding myself more, regaining confidence in my abilities and my self-esteem. But there's nothing more important than meeting new people both online and off, and teaching my parents how to use the internet. :3

Here's a small list to explain it all.

Music:
-Members leaving bands (oh brother -_-) - Yuuto leaving SCREW is still rather disheartening, but erina leaving Dio left a bit of a deep scar inside me.
-Some disbandments - I know of 176BIZ by heart, but that's it.
-Listened to some new music both within and outside Japan.
~MBLAQ - caved in due to their sexiness and brainwashing from a couple of good friends :x
~ViViD - 69-II was indeed catchy, but the PV...OMFG implied porn alert, especially from Reno's beckoning finger. *shakes fist at Bunneh* Haven't stop loving them since.
~My growing love for Estonian music artists. Kerli was the first, however, my love for her wasn't instant. It grew when I started listening to her other songs. Another being Vanilla Ninja, an all-girl group who also grew on me. I've just found out about them a few days ago. I'll definitely continue to listen to them.
~Danish metal band Raunchy! :D I never ever heard of them until sometime after Christmas through a video of some bodybuilder (I forgot his name). The song Remembrance has never left my head since. Some of their other songs are kick-ass too. I recommend them.
~Lots of indies J-musicians...even older ones from the 70s and 80s! Including VELGREED.
-I'm really sick of people comparing artists! D<

School:
-Half of my classes from Spring semester...I really want to forget about, especially when it comes to a certain teacher I wanted to physically blow up at for the way she talked to me. But I'm over it now, so I just became more focused on how I do my stuff my own way since then, and still not caring much for perfection as I speak now.
-Summer semester was fun, but taking five classes was the starting point of my stress on the rise. Sculpture 1 I had a lot of fun with, and Art History. Exercise and Weight Conditioning did teach me to get active with my body again, though I was still somewhat of a loner in that class.
-Fall semester...oh god. x.x Schedule for Mondays was damaging, Wednesdays it's lighter, Tuesdays and Thursdays was relaxing since I only had one class. Near meltdown...ugh. I'm just glad it's all over with.

Art:
-Painting 1 and Computer Graphics...I'll show you later if you're interested.
-I have a lot of drawings I would love to do, including fan art that's in the grotesque, surreal setting.
-I now love Photoshop more than Illustrator.

Books:
-I'm still reading The Kingdom Keepers by Ridley Pearson, but there are many others that I've bought I haven't read yet. I hope to be done with it before school starts.
-The Chronicles of Vladmir Tod is on top of my wish list of book series to read.
-A few non-fiction books such as manga art techniques and learning Japanese, with a new one that comes with a starter kit for new and experienced knitters.

Writing:
-The only resolution I have for 2010 is to write more in both fanfics and novels, not to mention find time to write them between school times.
-I still hope to do a collab one of these days. XD
-More ideas keep popping up. Still have a bit of trouble on how to translate it, but I'm fine with it.
-I see more oneshots and unfinished fics being finished for next year.

Etc.:
-New clothes and shoes.
-Games at a much cheaper price for PS2, but I would still love to have a PS3...or a Wii for older games.
-Shopping spree still needs to be finished.
-RPing OCs more often, even if it's in private.

Whew! I think I've worn myself out...and I still have some typing to do later today. Anyways, I'd like to wish you all a Happy New Year with happiness and success in life. :D

No More Stress...for now

It's been a short while since I've updated any journal. But the Fall semester has finally ended, and on a better note this time.

Introduction to Astronomy (Lecture) - C
Introduction to Astronomy (Lab) - A
Painting 1 - C
Computer Graphics - B
Women in the History of Art - B

As much as I'm enjoying the break right now, I feel a tad bit excited to go to school for the upcoming Spring semester. I'll only be taking four classes instead of five to avoid the built-up stress from happening again. And somewhere along the line I will be taking a math class. I still might make it the last class I ever take.

Spring 2010 classes:
Art History 2
American Art
Typography 1
Printmaking 1
I was thinking about taking Asian Cultures, but I think I'm going to wait until Fall 2010 (if offered). Not going to school next summer still stands.

Besides school stuffs, it's also time I finally get to work on my own creativity again. Drawing, writing, video games, resuming my conversational Japanese lessons, more music, and watching TV shows/movies are definitely at the top of my list! I'm really loving Hetalia too, now that I'm fully caught up on episodes. :D

I also have to work on some bottled up anger issues that still go on inside me too. Turns out that even having a little grudge against some people, no matter how reasonable it is, is never good to keep in. I usually do a good job in holding back so I won't do anything that I'll end up regretting later. If I just spew it all out in such an immature way, it goes nowhere as a result. But then I learned about how a female French artist named Bourgeois used her artistic creations to deal with her anger and frustrations...or was it another artist...but I think it might've been her. Because of this I also learn that doing something productive with my anger can be the best medicine, but the con about this resolve is WHOEVER the artist's subject is about might end up not liking it (think revenge). It's a risk, but the world is full of risks.

Oh my...I've said a lot today! o.o I'll probably end up doing some more updating tomorrow. Right now I'm satisfying my VELGREED fix. I wonder if there are any good comms relating to the band...

Screw Elitist Perfectionism

Some interesting things happen to me in my life as of late.

I've finally finished my first chapter for a brand new fanfic after having so many ideas being stuck in my head. Because of pressures from school and big doses of self-doubt, I nearly came close to not writing anymore (with writer's block mixed in), leaving my other chaptered fics unfinished. But that never happened! Woohoo! It feels damn good to write on my own personal time again. I'm planning on posting it pretty soon.

This strong conscience appeared to me regarding to my abilities in everything I do. No matter how perfect I make things, people are still going to hate it. That alone, and advice from friends and loved ones, gave me plenty of reasons why I should keep going, but under my own terms from now on. If people don't like it, then who cares? I'm happy with my work.

The most amazing thing I've ever heard from my fiancé is his growing love for Visual Kei. We have been talking about Dir en grey, Janne D'Arc, Gazette, Vidoll, and others. XD Somehow, I feel like I must get him into more bands. XD

In my last entry I mentioned about having a near meltdown. But I've made a small list of things that can ease it away progressively or instantly and why:

1. Hetalia - instant randomness.
2. Mighty Mouse - Just hearing him sing "Here I come to save the day!" can soothe the soul.
3. Looney Tunes - Choose your favorite ones that can really make you laugh. My personal favorite: Duck Amuck.
4. Seeing J-Rockers act like complete dorks - a good "cheer up" mechanism.
5. Talk with a friend. Usually works. ^^

That's all I can name so far. More will come soon once I think of any more.

Ja ne pataters!

P.S. My fiancé asked me if I could post a part of his story on my journal. I told him I would. I'll be making a separate entry to that though.

I've been tagged by tayru to do this. It has been to long since I've been tagged, unless if I missed some entries on my Friends List. :P

Rules:
Firstly: If you've been tagged, you must write your answers in your own LJ and replace any question that you dislike with a new, original question.
Secondly: Tag eight people. Don't refuse to do that. Don't tag who tagged you.

Who sleeps in bed next to you?
Right now, nobody. Though I did have a nice weekend with my fiancé. XD

Have you ever lied to a teacher to get out of a deadline?
Not in a long long time. XD

What kind of magazines do you read?
I usually read CURE magazine for inspiration, fashion, and new bands. Sadly I don't see them at Hot Topic anymore... But now I rarely read any. ^^;

What's your occupation?
Being a full-time Graphic Design student is an occupation for me in the real world.
I'm also doing my best to fulfill one of my dreams as a novel writer.

What's really creepy?
My near meltdown over a few things that almost led to wanting to break my own hands. If I did that I'd never use them again.

Who is your celebrity crush?
Is it wrong for me to say that I have a crush on Rame from Vidoll? :3

What's your current fandom/obsession/addiction?
A lot of bands/musicians from Japan and Korea are my current obsessions. XD MBLAQ, Vidoll, DELUHI, many others.
Insert Witty Title Here #(Lost Count)

So I didn't feel like going to school to continue the paintings. Something else came to mind besides those. When fun begs for me to come play, I ended up following without hesitation. I've been working way too much recently (damn due dates), but I had to get things done as EARLY as I can so I can spend some (make that a lot of) time with my fiancé on Thursday.

List as of today:
Reading and setting up for CAW #9 (Women in Art History)
Guerilla Girls book review (simply need to type in rough draft) (Women in Art History)

After reading some entries regarding to Axis Powers Hetalia for quite sometime now, I find myself being drawn in to watching the series. It is so FRICKING HILARIOUS! XD I'm officially addicted to it, including the Chibitalia moments. So I make a note to myself to watch 12 episodes a day whenever I decide to take a break from school woes. Poor little Italy...I want to hug him, but at the same time, I want to smack him for his stupidity. *probably gonna get bricked for that statement*

I should get started on reading now. ^^;

Whenever Your Average-to-Good Mood Falls

Today was the dreadful critique day at Comp Graphics. And it turns out that word "dreadful" was just an understatement. When everyone presented their artworks, they made mine look like ABSOLUTE CRAP! Though I do appreciate the constructive criticism on what I needed to do to make it better, I felt like the damage had already been done, no matter how hard I've worked on it. If I ever make a D or and F on this project, I am more than ready to make a bonfire and throw it in there. I'm really beginning to not like the class anymore. Plus I just want this damn semester to end.

Painting only did a bit of good in forgetting my feelings of temporary worthlessness. But this sketch from Whose Line (US) REALLY erased it. :)

<lj-embed id="3" />

Halloween Tricks and Treats

Okay, like, I've been having this super crazy week on working this tubularly crazy project for Painting 1. It involves this thing called Diametrically Opposed Identity Still Life Diptych and some junk. At first, I didn't, like, understand it until I end up having to find a picture just to see what my teacher was talking about. Alright. I admit words are just, like, not enough for me and stuff.

Oh my god! Has anyone listened to Ken's (L~arc en Ciel) latest album In Physical? :D It's is one of the most awesomest albums I had ever heard. And his Engrish is, like, soooo adorable! I highly recommend it!

One more thing before I have to go to Nightmareville, my first novel I've written back in 2007, is now officially copyrighted, and forwarded to a publishing company I never heard of. I'm sooo excited, but like, after talking with my fiance about the matter and whatever, he now suggests to me we should try to get published! Like ohhh man, I wasn't sure about this myself, but at this point. I do feel like I want my original stories (not fanfics) to have some exposure to the public. I still have to think about it~. Speaking of fanfics, I did this fic based on MBLAQ and junk. It feels like really awesome to find time to write again, even started on the Gazette fic I've been wanting to work on since like a few weeks.

<s>EPIC VALLEY GIRL FAILURE!</s>

samuraisongbird's Halloween party:

Why must this Korean boy band be so brainwashingly good?!
A Gradually Happy Mell

My week has been the best so far. School has finally let me relax, but that's because I've managed to finish the 12 x 16-inch canvas paintings, all nonobjectional in different color studies. I'm really beginning to like painting somewhat, as long as I don't use the fat-over-lean technique (don't know what that is? feel free to ask via posting comment and I'll gladly answer ^^). Despite this project being the easiest to work with in both drawing and coloring, I still despise the style of art, even when working with oil paint. I just got a huge-ass canvas I need to work on and that is it...hopefully.

Computer Graphics class is getting even more exciting, including our critiques on our bird projects. The class's final assignment with Illustrator is a logo project. I have to find 10 product logos but choose one (or two?) to sketch. I'm really tempted to use the PSC logo...and I mean REALLY tempted... *insert cheesy evil laugh here*

Ahem...so I've finally started reading and listening to Japanese for Beginners. I've only finished the first chapter, but I don't mind repeating it to make sure I understand it correctly, even if it is conversational Japanese. This is going to be a lot of fun as I go further.

I really should start eating more healthy foods. After watching some of the segments by Cooking with Dog, I should start learning how to cook for myself as well with the recipes provide. But I might have to alter it a little bit in case if I can't find any of them in the Commissary, or even Winn Dixie. Sometimes I wish I wasn't so low on cash.

Stress, Stress, More Stress, and Unexpected Departure

It's not surprising I haven't been updating much in anything, including fanfics and art (personal) due to a crazy schedule at school, including the fact I have to type papers (two of them are reviews), make flashcards for upcoming midterm, and MORE painting. I most certainly HATE being stressed under that level, especially when I nearly lost my sanity last night!

All ridiculousness aside...I've read about Yuuto leaving SCREW. He wasn't a favorite member of mine, but it was definitely shocking. I do wish him lots of luck in the future though... I'll have to make room in that schedule of mine to make something for a fan project dedicated to him, if it's going to be carried out. I'll even make it short, cute, and sweet.

Gosh...watching and listening to Miku Hatsune from the computer program Vocaloid is really soothing my soul right now...

My Labor Day Weekend Isn't Long Enough

It turns out that there was in fact an assignment due earlier tonight. The announcement for my class was confusing. Must've been for another book...my Labor Day filled with movies and video games have led me astray. x3

I've watched the pilot episode of The Vampire Diaries. This is just my short opinion on the matter. It's just like Twilight, but the main female character (Elena) is less annoying, and the vampire (Stefan) is even more interesting. I'd like to see where this is heading. Oh dear...am I committing a crime here?! D: I mean I've never read the book series before, and yet I have my eyes on another that deals with vampire romance. And I still have yet to read the story Doc sent me! Stupid homework...

While rambling about TV, I'm now deep into the plot of The Equalizer. I haven't watched it since I was a kid. What got me hooked to the show was the theme song (and imagining it without drums sometimes). Edward Woodward certainly knew how to convince me, including his previous works. XD I now feel inspired to write something, or at least draw relating to the show.

Nami Shimada is awesome! ^_^ It's really a wonderful thing I've used the last.fm application today, because I haven't messed with it in a while.

I wonder where I can download some old J-pop from the 80s and below...

As I type in this fancy schmancy LJ of mine, I'm taking a short break from doing my CAW (Critical Assessment Worksheet) assignment just so I could eat something. I should nickname this mostly-weekly assignment as COW, because it's such a pain already. Fortunately I have the interesting points highlighted in the chapter the class had to read before writing the stuff down. I'll survive, and hopefully get better.

For the other classes I'm taking...
Intro to Astronomy (Lecture) - It feels kinda awkward, but progressively becomes more understanding as I go along. Seems like I'll have to show up everyday as long as I don't oversleep or get sick. Students are assigned into groups for activities and to sit near each other just to get them done. Shoot...we have to analyze an excerpt to Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix related to the topic at hand. Meeting Mondays & Wednesdays.
Intro to Astronomy (Lab) - Again assigned into groups, but one half of the class meets one of those two days. So far from looking at the manual, I see quite a lot of math equations, but it's a bit more fun than the lecture.
Computer Graphics - I'm finally getting the gist of how to use Illustrator properly. Photoshop does not come until later in the semester. Right now the class's first assignment is to make an object of our choice, but the picture is strictly black and white. I like it. XD
Painting 1 - Very first time using oil colors in my entire life. It's more messy than the acrylics and watercolors combined, which I don't mind. XD
Women in the History of Art - Some of the stuff I've mentioned is on the first paragraph. But I also have to write two review papers: one involving the choice of two exhibits and another with a Guerilla Girls book. It's more interesting than I thought it would be.

For previous semester, my grades are: Bio Lecture - D, Bio Lab and Art History 1 - B, Exercise and Weight Conditioning and Sculpture 1 - A

My source of entertainment has broadened like crazy as of late too. Alongside wanting to buy the game Persona 4, I've been watching a whole lot of older anime too. Saint Seiya (hated that damned DiC version), Magical Angel Creamy Mami, and AstroBoy (1980 version) are just a few of them. Even the Sentai shows struck my curiosity too, like Choujin Sentai Jetman (I highly recommend it) and it's likeable heroes and villains. Last night I watched a movie from the UK called Kidulthood. It's good and all, but the ending was horribly sad to me. I won't say what happened at the end, it might spoil everything for those who have not seen it. Once I watch Adulthood, maybe some of my questions would be answered.

Back to work on the COW I go! I really should update my art journal more often...

I've just finished my first week of school for the Fall, and it already feels somewhat awkward. But I'll survive apparently! Though Computer Graphics and Painting 1 doesn't seem to be all that bad so far...

When I rented Persona 4 from Blockbuster, at first I wasn't sure if it was going to be easy, hard, or just plain boring. So far, I'm surprised to say how much I'm enjoying it right now as soon as I started playing it, especially the story. What's even crazier is I find myself unable to stop until 3 hours later. Since I'm new to actually playing the Shin Megami Tensei series...any recommendations? :) Honestly I was tempted to play the online game...but I dunno...

And now...sleepy time goes me!

Post-Vacation and Shocking News

I just got back from Texas yesterday, and it was great spending time with my beloved for the week. Seeing my brother too really lightens things up as well, including the discussion of school work. Hehe... it's too bad I am not as good in math like I was several years ago. Anything Calculus is already out the door. -_- It feels like not much has changed in Abilene in my opinion. The week is running too fast...

When I read about the death of Jasmine You minutes after I got into my room unpacking my things, I was so shocked I gasped out loud. I've been asking myself what caused his death, then found out he died of health complications. *sighs* There are a few bright moments he left for me before his death: his hair (what can I say? I fell in love with it ^^), they way he strums his bass, and the soft, charismatic voice he carried.

Jasmine's family and Versailles have my condolences. RIP Jasmine You.

The End and Beginning of a Nightmare

My end of the nightmare is the fact I am happy with school ending yesterday for me. It's been pure and utter hell, especially in Sculpture class. I guess that's how Summer semesters work since they're much shorter than Fall and Spring ones. Got most of my grades in, and I'm going to wait for one more day regarding to my Sculpture class. Now I am free to do whatever I wish for now! I started coming back onto Second Life (more often), finding the club for KnJ. Awesome place I must say. :) I even saved the website.

The beginning of the nightmare...the long car drive to Texas on Thursday morning (ick!). I'll be going with my parents to visit my brother and fiance. I've been looking forward to seeing them again. And I've just been reading that erina is quitting Dio...I was really sad to hear the news since I've grown to like him so much. All I can say is I wish him a whole lot of luck in the future in whatever he does next.

Finished reading the two vampire romance books I wanted to read. One (The Awakening by L.A. Banks) was pretty good, the other (La Vida Vampire by Nancy Haddock) was better than I expected. I'll be hunting for Last Vampire Standing once I get through reading a whole bunch of other books I've bought:
Orcs First Blood: Bodyguard of Lightning (Book 1) by Stan Nicholls (reading that one next)
The Kingdom Keepers (Book 1) by Ridley Pearson
What She Left For Me by Tracie Peterson
Grown Folks Business by Victoria Christopher Murray
Dawn of Empire by Sam Barone

I can't think of anything else to write at the moment...

Ja ne, folksies!

What A Month

While studying for a Biology lecture exam, I end up watching a favorite TV miniseries of mine on TV Land. The channel's showing The Jacksons: An American Dream in tribute to the late Michael Jackson. They're going to show it again in a few minutes.

*sighs* It feels like so many deaths are happening in a matter of weeks.

First, it was David Carradine...I loved him in the Kung Fu legacy and Kill Bill vol. 2.

Next, Ed McMahon...I started to like him when I first watched the original Star Search.

And now, two deaths on the same day: Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson. I thought Miss Fawcett was pretty cool, especially when she was in Charlie's Angels. Michael...I grew up listening to him when I was a little girl in the 80s, adoring his singing and dancing. I will admit I had a shirt of him with the words "BEAT IT" on the front. I wonder what happened to it...ah well.

All of them gave me great memories, and they will surely be missed.

R.I.P.

Hello, friends.

How are you?

It's been a crazy summer already. Exams have been hitting me left and right. Took two of them on the same day, didn't do so well with the Biology lecture one. I'll be figuring out my Art History 1 today as I send my teacher a rough draft of my proposal regarding to my research paper. I'll be studying for the lab portion of Biology since that exam is this coming Monday. Another one the week after for the lecture portion. Currently doing another book evaluation for Sculpture I, with one more to go that requires myself to go to the museum.

Don't you just love fast-paced Summer semesters?

Besides that, my imagination has been stirring like crazy in the realms of fiction writing, 3D modeling, drawing, RPing, voice acting, and video game creating. The sad thing about it is I rarely could find the spare time to do either one, even if it's doing at least one of them for one day. However, I do manage to find time to buy and read a vampire novel that's much better than I had expected. My only regret is not buying the first book in the series to start with. I should even find time to read fanfics too. :3

Gotta get to work on my paper now.

Later y'all!

EDIT: Oh yeah...my birthday dinner came two weeks late, but my dad's was right on time. :)
